Accessibility Statement

Last reviewed: May 14, 2026

Our commitment

Vet Uplift is committed to providing a website that is accessible to the widest possible audience, including veterans, family members, and caregivers using assistive technology. We design and build to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA and the accessibility requirements of Section 508 of the U.S. Rehabilitation Act.

Conformance level

The public Vet Uplift site (vetuplift.com) targets WCAG 2.1 Level AA and aligns with the technical requirements referenced by Section 508. This is a self-assessment. A formal third-party audit and Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT) may be produced separately on request.

Testing methodology

  • Automated scanning of every public route with axe-core / Lighthouse accessibility checks. Serious and critical violations are tracked and remediated.
  • Keyboard-only navigation testing across the home page, intake questionnaire, resource directory, resource detail pages, VA loan calculators, forms library, news feed, and state guide pages.
  • Manual screen reader spot-checks using VoiceOver (macOS / iOS) and NVDA (Windows) on critical conversion flows.
  • Color contrast verification of the navy / red / white brand palette against WCAG AA thresholds (4.5:1 for body text, 3:1 for large text and UI components).

Features that support accessibility

  • Skip-to-content link on every page.
  • Semantic landmarks (header, nav, main, footer) and a single h1 per page with logical heading order.
  • Visible focus indicators on all interactive elements via a 2px navy focus ring.
  • Programmatic labels on all form controls, with required-field indicators and error messages announced to screen readers.
  • Modal dialogs (cookie preferences, mobile navigation) trap focus, close on Esc, and return focus to the triggering element.
  • aria-live regions announce dynamic updates such as search results and filter changes.
  • Decorative icons are marked aria-hidden; meaningful icons have accessible names.
  • Animations honor the user's prefers-reduced-motion setting.

Known limitations

  • The Cloudflare Turnstile CAPTCHA on contact and lead forms is provided by a third party. It supports keyboard interaction and screen readers, but its visual appearance is controlled by Cloudflare and may not match our color palette exactly.
  • Embedded YouTube video players in the news section follow YouTube's own accessibility implementation.
  • Linked third-party PDFs and external government sites are governed by their publishers' accessibility practices, which we do not control.
  • The internal admin area is not in scope for this conformance statement; it is excluded from search engines and used only by authenticated staff.
