Frequently Asked Questions

How do I enroll in VA healthcare in Arizona?
Apply online at VA.gov/health-care/apply, call 1-877-222-8387, or visit the Phoenix, Tucson, or Prescott VA Medical Center enrollment office in person. You'll need your DD-214, Social Security number, and insurance information. Processing takes about 1-2 weeks.
Can I use community care providers instead of the VA in Arizona?
Yes, through the VA MISSION Act. You may qualify if the VA can't see you within 20 days (primary care) or 28 days (specialty care), or if the nearest VA facility is more than 30 minutes away. Your VA primary care team can authorize community care referrals.
Does the Phoenix VA have an emergency room?
Yes. The Phoenix VA Medical Center at 650 E. Indian School Road has a 24/7 emergency department. For life-threatening emergencies, always call 911. The Tucson VA also has a 24/7 emergency department.
What mental health services does the VA offer in Arizona?
Arizona VA facilities offer individual therapy, group therapy, PTSD-specific treatments (CPT, PE, EMDR), substance abuse programs, medication management, and crisis intervention. Telehealth mental health appointments are also available. Call the Veterans Crisis Line at 988 (press 1) for immediate support.
Are there VA clinics in rural Arizona?
Yes. The VA operates CBOCs in Payson, Yuma, Flagstaff, Lake Havasu City, Casa Grande, Sierra Vista, Green Valley, and other rural locations. Telehealth services are also available for veterans in remote areas who can't easily reach a clinic.
Is VA dental care available in Arizona?
VA dental care eligibility is more limited than medical care. Veterans with service-connected dental conditions, 100% disability rating, or former POWs receive comprehensive dental care. Other eligible groups receive varying levels of dental services. Contact the Phoenix or Tucson VA dental clinic for eligibility determination.
