Veteran job fairs and hiring events
National organizations such as RecruitMilitary, Hiring Our Heroes (U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation), and many base and state workforce agencies run veteran job fairs — both in person and virtual — throughout the year. These events put you in front of recruiters actively seeking veterans. Bring several tailored resumes, dress professionally, and prepare a 30-second introduction that names the kind of role you want.
SkillBridge
The DoD SkillBridge program lets service members spend their final months on active duty (typically up to 180 days before separation) training with a civilian employer while still drawing military pay. It's effectively a paid tryout that often converts to a full-time offer. Filter live SkillBridge openings on our job search.
Apprenticeships
Registered apprenticeships let you earn while you learn a skilled trade or technical field — and the GI Bill can pay a monthly housing allowance on top of your apprentice wage. They're a strong path into electrical, HVAC, energy, advanced manufacturing, and IT careers. See current apprenticeship listings.
Corporate veteran-hiring programs
Many large employers have dedicated military-recruiting teams and public veteran-hiring commitments. When you find one, mention your service early, connect with their military talent team, and ask about mentorship or onboarding cohorts for veterans. Pair this with the best veteran careers guide and resume help to show up prepared.

Frequently asked questions
Where can I find veteran job fairs?
National groups like RecruitMilitary and Hiring Our Heroes, along with military bases and state workforce agencies, host in-person and virtual veteran job fairs year-round. Between events, use Vet Uplift's free job search to apply directly to veteran-friendly employers.
What is SkillBridge and am I eligible?
DoD SkillBridge lets transitioning service members train with a civilian employer for up to 180 days before separation while still receiving military pay — essentially a paid tryout that frequently leads to a full-time offer. Eligibility requires command approval; confirm timing with your chain of command.
Can the GI Bill help with apprenticeships?
Yes. While in a registered apprenticeship you can receive a monthly GI Bill housing allowance on top of your apprentice wages, making apprenticeships a strong earn-while-you-learn path into skilled trades and technical careers.
