Eligibility
Your length of service or service commitment, duty status and character of service determine your eligibility for specific home loan benefits. *Eligibility now includes National Guard members with at least 90 days of active service including at least 30 consecutive days under Title 32, Sections 316, 502, 503, 504 or 505. To be eligible, you must have satisfactory credit, sufficient income to meet the expected monthly obligations, and a valid Certificate of Eligibility (COE).

- Obtain your VA Certificate of Eligibility (COE).
- For a Purchase Loan or Cash-Out Refinance, choose a lender and get the VA loan through that lender after you obtain your COE.
- Get your COE through your lender, on VA.gov, or by mail.
- For an IRRRL, work with your lender; a new COE is not required.
- For a Native American Direct Loan, first confirm your tribal organization participates in the VA direct loan program, then obtain a COE through VA.gov or by mail and work with a lender of your choice.
- For an Adapted Housing Grant, complete VA Form 26-4555 and submit it to your nearest Regional Loan Center, or complete the online application.
