The Post-9/11 GI Bill covers up to 100% of tuition and fees at Florida public universities and colleges at the in-state rate. It also provides a Monthly Housing Allowance (MHA) based on the Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) rate for the school's ZIP code, plus an annual books and supplies stipend of up to $1,000. Florida veterans attending school full-time in metro areas like Miami, Tampa, or Orlando can expect MHA payments ranging from $1,800 to $2,400 per month.
Veterans who contributed to the Montgomery GI Bill during service receive a flat monthly payment while pursuing approved education or training. In 2026, the full-time rate is approximately $2,200 per month for up to 36 months. The Montgomery GI Bill can be used at any VA-approved institution in Florida.
Veterans with service-connected disabilities who face barriers to employment can access VR&E, which covers tuition, books, supplies, and provides a monthly subsistence allowance. VR&E can fund bachelor's, master's, doctoral, or vocational programs at any accredited Florida institution.
This state-funded program waives tuition at Florida public colleges and universities for eligible veterans who have exhausted their federal GI Bill benefits. The waiver covers up to 110% of the required credit hours for a degree program. Eligible veterans must be Florida residents and enrolled at a state university, college, or career center.
