Veterans Education Career Transition Resource Center

The Georgia VECTR Center, located at Fort Eisenhower (formerly Fort Gordon) in Augusta, is a unique state-funded facility that helps transitioning service members and veterans earn industry-recognized certifications and credentials at no cost. The center offers accelerated training programs in high-demand fields including IT, cybersecurity, project management, healthcare, and commercial driving (CDL).

Programs typically last 4-16 weeks and include certifications such as CompTIA A+, Security+, Network+, Cisco CCNA, PMP, and more. The VECTR Center is open to all Georgia veterans and transitioning service members regardless of GI Bill status. All training, materials, and certification exams are provided free of charge.

Georgia HERO Scholarship

Helping Educate Reservists and their Offspring

The Georgia HERO Scholarship provides tuition assistance to members of the Georgia National Guard, U.S. military reservists stationed in Georgia, and their dependent children. The scholarship covers tuition at any University System of Georgia (USG) or Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) institution. Recipients must maintain satisfactory academic progress and remain in good standing with their military unit.

Federal Education Benefits

Post-9/11 GI Bill (Chapter 33)

The Post-9/11 GI Bill provides up to 36 months of education benefits including full tuition and fees at public institutions, a monthly housing allowance based on the school's ZIP code, and a $1,000 annual book stipend. At Georgia's public universities, the GI Bill covers 100% of tuition. Monthly housing allowances in the Atlanta metro area are approximately $1,900-2,200 in 2026.

Montgomery GI Bill & VR&E

Veterans who paid into the Montgomery GI Bill receive up to 36 months of benefits at approximately $2,054 per month (2026 rate). Veterans with service-connected disabilities may qualify for Veteran Readiness and Employment (VR&E / Chapter 31), which covers tuition, books, and a subsistence allowance for training that leads to suitable employment.

In-State Tuition Guarantee

Under Georgia law and the federal Choice Act, all veterans using GI Bill benefits qualify for in-state tuition at Georgia's public colleges and universities, regardless of residency. This eliminates out-of-state surcharges for recently separated veterans moving to Georgia.

Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG)

Georgia's 22 technical colleges offer career-focused programs in healthcare, IT, manufacturing, and trades. Many TCSG campuses have dedicated veterans services coordinators who assist with GI Bill certification, academic advising, and career placement. TCSG programs are fully eligible for GI Bill and VR&E benefits.

Veteran-Friendly Institutions

University of Georgia

UGA's Student Veterans Resource Center provides academic advising, GI Bill certification, peer mentoring, and career services. UGA is recognized as a Military Friendly school and enrolls hundreds of student veterans annually.

Georgia State University

Georgia State's Office of Military and Veteran Student Services in Atlanta provides comprehensive support including enrollment assistance, GI Bill processing, tutoring, and mental health referrals. The downtown Atlanta campus is accessible and veteran-friendly.

Kennesaw State University

KSU's Veterans Resource Center provides dedicated support services and a community space for student veterans. KSU has been designated a Military Friendly school and offers priority registration for veterans.
